| Carlson Community Services - Three Brothers Garden | The Three Brothers Garden is operated by Carlson Community Services, through a partnership with Irving Park Lutheran Church who allows the use of their property for the garden site. The garden, which grows vegetables and herbs, was founded in 2009 with the goal of benefitting the Irving Park Community Food Pantry. Since 2009, nearly 9000 pounds of fresh produce have been grown and donated to the food pantry. Weekly harvests take place on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 - 7:00pm with produce being delivered to the food pantry every Wednesday morning. Harvests begin in May and continue into October. |
| Sameer & Stephen | A mature perennial garden with small water feature. Our current focus is adding herbs and native plants. |
| Liz & Steve Mills | During the pandemic, we created a backyard lounge area that provided a space for friends and family to gather. Four years later, it's still a great spot to take in our native grasses, pollinator-friendly plants and flowering perennials. |
| Tara and Patrick McKee | Our outdoor space has evolved from a kids play area with a sandbox and jungle gym to an outdoor extension of our home and is now a combination of English Garden meets Wooded Trail, with outdoor seating and dining thrown in! Please stop by! |
| Beth Tidmarsh | The magnolia tree in our front garden was planted in 2021. We've added other plants and flowers around it since then. |
| Helen & Mark Lira | Our backyard has served us so well over the years. It has evolved from a play space for our young children to a garden/entertaining space for us now. Our patio is used daily and adds additional square footage to our livable space! |
| Dana Harder | Our front yard features colorful succulents, annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, ferns, and a small fairy garden with a central Buddha statue and tealight. Minimal hardscaping contrasts with a cozy porch and seasonal windsocks. In the backyard, you will find a small vegetable and herb garden, seating areas, and a playhouse. |
| Alison True | Back and front yards full of plants and hardscape. I've made it my mission to remove all turf grass, offering insects an oasis on the concrete superhighway. |
| Ed Gardner | A mixture of raised beds, ground cover and Japanese maples |
| Erin J Hunter | We recently re-did our backyard to remove a lot of hardscape and add more grass. We enjoy spending time outside watching sports and harvesting the bounty from our garden. |
| Gayle & Doug Irvin | Our backyard is an eclectic collections of various flowers, ground coverings and grasses. We have a number of potted flowers, pergola with vines growing for the wildlife to enjoy and a sitting area ideal for doing some work or relaxing. Our deck is a great place to entertain or sit after work for a nice drink . In addition, we have a fire pit to sit around for cool nights. |
| Laura Ell | We have been in our home for 20 years, and our garden has transformed quite a bit. We added hardscaping and a new deck to make the yard feel more connected when entertaining. The wisteria was just a little thing when we moved in and now it’s an anchor in the yard that also provides a shady spot in the summer. We have also tried to incorporate native plants as well as hardy perennials for our 3 dogs and their doggie friends as well as trying to feed the bees and butterflies. |
| Cindi and Mike Webber | Our garden greets you with grand Hydrangeas that lead you to our side yard anchored with a Honey Locust tree that replaced a beloved 100 year old Pussy Willow tree. The side yard filled with various Hostas, Goats Beard, Mock Orange and Hibiscus to the South and on the North we grow our vegetables next to our newly started monarch garden and fragrant Lilac. The backyard features a small firepit area surrounded by hostas, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. Our deck serves as a trellis for the beautiful Sweet Autumn Clematis. |
| Paula Giroux | The back yard reflects almost 25 years of planting and replacing and seeing what grows well—often TOO well. Maybe overgrown and definitely not neat but private and bird and insect friendly! Almost all perennials or plants I overwinter in the basement. |
| Amy Guzman | Comfortable oasis in the city. A retreat from the hectic day to day. |
| Pam Austin | Our backyard is a mix of plants and trees from friends, family and neighbors collected over the last 25 years. I have added several pieces of yard art from various art fairs in Michigan, Illinois and South Carolina, including memorials for all of our pets. The greenhouse was built by the original owner to grow orchids and now just serves as a place to start seeds in the spring and sometimes watch the rain. |
| Jessica Vahey | While our backyard is currently being worked on for hardscaping, we've done our best to create a tranquil space on our front porch and front yard. Whether sitting on the front porch to bang out a few emails during the work day or to sip some wine after work to watch the sun set, it's our tiny urban oasis. And because our hanging ferns tend to block us a bit, we get some good people watching too ;-). |
| Chris | My yard has transitioned to a natural space. Fruit trees, vegetable garden, few prairie plants, 100 percent organic for 30+ years, I have a number of artful settings and sculptures. Not your typical "pretty yard" probably has an unkept look to those who think a monocrop of grass and boarded flower beds is the only proper aesthetic. My vision is more along the planet healthy with diverse plantings, exposed soil etc. to support birds and pollinators of all sorts. |
| Isabel Liss | Garden is 25 years old and contains a wide variety edible and flowering plants. It has a patio and a garden swing and several container plantings. There is also an extensive fairy garden on the front parkway. |
| Mary Buczek | Our yard is an oasis in the city for us. It has undergone many changes over the 25 plus years we have been here. The pergola with hop and grape vines, small rose garden and the decades old rambling rose bordering the fence have remained beloved features. |
| Laura Rios | My addiction to flowers and need to dig in dirt has resulted in 29 years of expanding and growing my perennial and vegetable gardens. I love bringing smiles to the faces of people who walk past my front garden and peek through the side gate to see the side and backyard. |
